Include AAPI ( Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders ) History to K-12 School Curriculum in Minnesota
Asian Americans are American. The history of Asian Americans, encompassing their struggles and ongoing contributions to this nation, is an integral part of American history. Regrettably, our school system does not currently include AAPI history in its curriculum, resulting in a significant gap in our children’s knowledge. It is crucial to acknowledge that this lack of information can be perilous, as we have witnessed numerous times in the past.
To rectify this issue, we must advocate for the inclusion of AAPI history in our educational curriculum. By doing so, we can ensure that all students acquire a comprehensive understanding of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and their impact on our society. This inclusion will foster cultural awareness, promote respect for diversity, and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable education system.
It is truly an honor to collaborate with State Rep. Patricia Mueller to transform the AAPI History bill into law. This bill represents a significant step towards addressing the specific challenges and advancing the well-being of AAPI individuals in our society. We have to take action to ensure this bill progresses through the legislative process and ultimately becomes law.
In fact, five states have already passed bills to include AAPI History in their schools. Proud to be an Asian American, specifically a Chinese American, I work hard to push my school district to set up One Day of AAPI History in May throughout the entire district, and would love to testify on the bill when it comes to the committee.
